Canada Day 2020: What’s open and closed

Canada Day Activities  

The federal government cancelled all in person Canada Day celebrations, this includes fireworks at Parliament Hill. There will be a series of virtual events to safely mark the occasion. 

City of Ottawa Service Changes  

  • Beaches and splash pads will be open, depending on the weather. 
  • City child care centres will be closed for the day. 
  • Ottawa City Hall and its seven client service centres will be closed. 
  • The Ottawa Public Library will put any pick-ups or returns on hold for the day.  

COVID-19 Services  

  • The Brewer Arena COVID-19 Case Assessment Centre will be closed Canada Day. 
  • The Heron and Moodie care clinics will be open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. 

Free Public Transit  

  • Busses will run on a Sunday schedule Canada Day while the Confederation line will be on a reduced weekday schedule.  
  • The Line 2 replacement bus will be on a Saturday schedule. 
  • All OC Transpo Bus and Confederation line services will be free for Canada Day.  

Garbage, green bin or recycling collection 

  • There will no curbside garbage, green bin or recycling collection Wednesday. That will resume Thursday with collection off one day for the rest of the week. 
  • Mutli-residential garbage collection will go ahead as scheduled but multi-residential recycling, green bin and bulky collection will be paused for Canada Day. 
  • The Trail Road Waste facility will stay open. 

Groceries 

All grocery stores will be closed Canada except for: 

  • The Loblaws at Isabella Street and at Rideau Street will be open. 
  • You can also get your groceries at the Whole Foods at Lansdowne. 

LCBO and Beer Stores 

  • All LCBO and Beer Stores will be closed on Canada Day.  

Shopping 

All shopping centres in the area will be closed except for: 

  • The Byward Market. 
  • Shops in the Glebe. 
  • The Rideau Centre.
