The NAC Indigenous Theatre and Ottawa Public Library Partner Up for a 2021 Indigenous Book Club

Are you hoping to read more this year? The National Arts Centre’s Indigenous Theatre and the Ottawa Public Library have partnered up to bring you Our Stories: Indigenous Book Club. Each month from January until June, a book by an Indigenous author will be featured. Readers are invited to join a Facebook event page where discussion questions about the book will be posted all month long. Towards the end of the month, a virtual conversation with the author will take place.

In January, you were invited to read Ojibwe and South Asian author, Yolanda Bonnell’s play, bug. bug tells the story of The Girl and The Mother as they face a series of traumas that many Indigenous women endure.

In the coming months, you’ll have a chance to dive into the following reads:

  • February: Performing Turtle Island: Indigenous Theatre on the World Stage by Jesse-Rae Archibald-Barber (Editor), Kathleen Irwin (Editor), Moira J. Day (Editor)
  • March: Uiesh = Quelque part by Joséphine Bacon
  • April: Approaching Fire by Michelle Porter
  • May: Noopiming: The Cure for White Ladies by Leanne Betasamosake Simpson
  • June: What I Remember, What I Know: The Life of a High Arctic Exile by Larry Audlaluk
