On December 19th, Disney will be releasing the conclusion to the famous saga that started a long time ago in a galaxy far, far away. Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you might have heard that the last Star Wars installment is set to hit theatres tomorrow. To the dilettante fan, this isn’t something to be alarmed about. It’s easy to fall into a sense of security that Star Wars will always be there, especially with Disney announcing a myriad of ‘next-gen’ movies and TV shows set to take place in the same fictional landscape (the popularity of The Mandalorian speaks for itself). However, The Rise of Skywalker will bring a definitive end to the dynastic Skywalker family story that’s been 40 years in the making.
So, the big question is, how exactly will it end? Ever since the trailer was first released, the movie has been subject to rumors, fan theories and outlandish speculation. With an ambiguous title, it’s no surprise; everyone’s got an opinion. The ELMNT FM team is no different and it’s led to some interesting office debates. Recently, we talked about some of the speculation circulating the internet. Here are some fun ones we’ve come across. They’re a bit spoiler-y, so consider yourself warned.
All around me are familiar faces
The trailer revealed that big bad emperor, Palpatine, would be making a comeback. Fans immediately began to speculate that if Palpatine was returning, it wouldn’t be too far-fetched to assume other chief characters might make an appearance too, namely Anakin Skywalker. And why stop there? Fans are hoping to see force ghosts of Obi-Wan, Luke and Yoda to appear alongside Anakin.
Rey and Palpi are related
Fans might have to brace themselves for another ‘I am your father’ moment if this theory turns out to be true. We think it’s highly unlikely, but Star Wars has known to make surprise revelations in the past. The assertion is that Rey and Palpatine are related, hence their British accents, and why Rey has been somewhat tempted by the dark side. It all makes sense now!
Rey is a clone
Another speculation that revolves around Rey’s mysterious origin, is that Rey is a clone…made from Luke’s severed hand which he lost during his fight with Darth Vader in The Empire Strikes Back. This would explain why Luke’s lightsaber called to Rey in The Force Awakens. The pair also shared a strong connection which clearly cannot be ignored.
We would love to hear some more fun fan theories you’ve come across. The more out there, the better! Who knows, we might discover something real. In any case, all shall be revealed this Thursday. We’ve got our tickets already.
