Ottawa hospitals implement new visitor policies

The Ottawa Hospital has implemented a ‘No Visitors’ policy.

In a statement to ELMNT, the Hospital says the policy has been created to help better protect patients and staff from the transmission of COVID-19.

The hospital says it understands every patient comes with their own set of circumstances.

“Care teams will work with family regarding visits for exceptional circumstances on a compassionate and equitable basis,” the Hospital told ELMNT.

The city’s other major hospitals have implemented similar policies.

The Queensway Carleton Hospital says visitors are no longer permitted.

The website says this meant to, “protect everyone’s health.”

CHEO has new measures in place to prevent further transmission of COVID-19. The hospital says patients using services like the emergency department can be accompanied by one parent while inpatients can have two parents or guardians visit but only one caregiver can stay over night. Siblings are not permitted at the hospital. CHEO says all family caregivers will be screened and will not be allowed on the premises if they are sick.
