Stay Home Club with Jill Kennedy: March 30-April 5

It’s been just about three weeks of self-isolation now. How have you been holding up? I’ve been getting adjusted to our new at-home setup and my new routine too. I’m thrilled to be on the airwaves live from 3-7PM Monday-Friday. We have a great team here at ELMNT! There’s no doubt.

On a personal level, so far, I’ve successfully dressed professionally 25% of the time – the rest has been sweat pants and PJs. And that’s okay with me! Outside of work though, I’ve been keeping busy. Here are some of the activities keeping me going.

Watching:

This week, I spent roughly 7 hours binge-watching Tiger King: Murder, Madness & Mayhem on Netflix.

The story is initially about the big cat industry in the United States. But as the series goes on, it becomes less about the cats themselves and evolves into a deeply disturbing character study on several quirky and questionable people involved in the business. Each of the episodes layer drama, scandal and mystery onto each other.

If you are looking for a ride of a television show, this is the one. But prepare to dedicate a whole day to it because you will not want to look away.

Listening:

Artists are continuing to bring us the tunes despite these circumstances. For that, I’m thankful!

This week, The Weeknd dropped three new bonus tracks to accompany his latest album, After Hours, including “Nothing Compares”, “Missed You” and “Final Lullaby”. And staying true to the album’s mood – it’s a great mix of 80s sounds, R&B vibes and so much emotion.

As well, we got a brand new track from the new cowboy in town, Orville Peck. His tune, “Summertime” was set to drop on April 1st, and I honestly thought it was an April Fool’s prank but thank goodness it was no joke! It’s an imaginative tune with a beautiful video paired with it. Check it out here.

And for those who love wavy, shoe-gaze tunes, Ringo Deathstarr dropped a new self-titled album which I’ve been loving!

Spending Time

Here’s a puzzle I did – albeit not very seasonal!

Puzzles

This week I got really obsessed with doing puzzles! That has been the ultimate time crusher and you have something to show for it at the end.

This one was a Christmas gift – could you tell? I’ve never really been into puzzles but I’ve changed my tune now and am trying to solve the few I have in my games chest.

If you are looking to get into the puzzle trend, just know they are flying off the shelves, so get your orders in!

30 Day Song Challenge

Everyday since March 17th, I’ve been posting a song a day based on 30 different prompts.

It’s a fun way to think about your listening habits and your favourite songs and artists. Some days are harder to find a song for and others pose the challenge of choosing just one out of handful of your favourite tunes.

Feel free to save this photo and use it on your own social media!

P.S. This challenge pairs well with Instagram as they have the Instagram Music feature where you can preview 15 seconds of a song.

Socializing

Have you been using Facetime, Skype or Facebook video chat to stay in touch with your loved ones? I know I have! And I also love games of any kind so I was happy to hear you can play some games online together.

In case you missed Wake Up Ottawa this week, Aiden and Caroline shared that you can play a spin-off of Cards Against Humanity online called Remote Insensitivity! My friends and I have a weekly Facebook video chat meet up to stay connected. We thought this would be the perfect way to keep busy and get some laughs in too.

There’s also Jackbox games, which allows up to 10 friends to connect to a game using their phone, tablet or console controller. The kicker is – one person needs to have the Jackbox game for their Nintendo Switch, Xbox 360 or Playstation 4. But it’s a great way to hang with pals!
