Stay Home Club with Jill Kennedy: April 20-26

Hey, how’s it going! What day is it again? Oh who knows – it must be time for Stay Home Club! I mean, it always is. But don’t worry – I’ve got you covered with things to watch, listen to and some fun games and ideas to dive into while you self-isolate.

[Watching]

  • Knives Out

Knives Out is an Oscar-nominated mystery with comedic and thrilling moments strung throughout. It follows the mysterious murder of Harlan Thrombey, the patriarch of a very eccentric and quarrelsome family. Pretty well everyone is a suspect! I was on the edge of my seat the whole time. It was a ride.

And it’s got a stellar cast too – Ana de Armas, Daniel Craig, Chris Evans, Jamie Lee Curtis, Christopher Plummer and more.

[Listening]

Have you ever gotten a song stuck in your head? This is probably one of the most gripping podcasts I’ve ever listened to – and it’s all about a missing song. It follows a man who fondly remembers a song from his childhood but when he goes to look it up online, can’t find it anywhere. It sends him on the adventure of a lifetime. Eventually he meets up with PJ from Reply All, and they try to tackle this mystery together. The missing hit gets stuck in everyone’s head that comes into contact with it – including mine! If you dare to listen to an ear worm that seems like it might not be real, this is so worth your while.

[Spending Time]

This week I dived into yet another board game called Tiny Towns. It’s a strategic game where you have to build as many buildings as you can in a confined 4×4 space using five resources.┬áThe catch is, whoever’s turn it is will choose the resource all players have to place in their towns on that turn so you can really mess your competitors up!

One resource makes up one square and you have to place your resources in specific shapes across the board to be able to build a structure. If you don’t have the correct space to complete a building, you cannot build it and have to get creative with the excess resources on your board. Each building has a different function and you can get bonuses from certain structures. The goal is to get as many victory points as you can by the time your grid is full or you can’t build anymore.

This game is like if Settlers of Catan, Tetris and Sushi Go had a baby! It takes about 45 minutes and between 1 to 6 people can play. That’s right – it has a solo mode which could be perfect if you have some alone time on your hands these days.

My albums of choice…

If you love good music, this is a fun challenge for you! If you had to choose your four quarantine albums, what would you choose? This was a tough one – I had to make two of these!

How it works is you choose your favourite records and then they are superimposed onto this image of Bill Clinton listening to music and you can download it, share it and nominate your friends to do the same!

  • Social Isolation Houses

With all this extra time on our hands, it’s fun to think about what we want our homes to look like and what features we want them to have.

Can you choose your self-isolation house from this game? This is a tough challenge too. I chose house 4! I’d love to sit poolside everyday.

How have you been handling social isolation? What’s been keeping you busy? Comment below!
