Weekly Round-up: May 15

We can start to make use of marinas, golf courses and private parks, I hope you can get outside and enjoy some of these options this long weekend. I have some news you need and some ways to stay entertainedHave a great long weekend!

What had been scheduled as the city’s second hazardous waste depot has been cancelled. There are other dates in place, but they could be subject to change.

The province has extended the State of Emergency through to June 2nd. This comes as we enter the first phase to reopen our economy.

In some exciting news, the Summer Solstice Indigenous Festival is heading online this year. You can stream some music and support your favourite vendors from June 1st to June 21st

What to watch, listen to, read, and eat this weekend

Watch: Take a peek at CBC Gem if you’re looking for a new movie or show to binge. The service is free and boasts everything from your favourite CanCon to some international hits you may have missed. I was able to find The National Treasure (not the Nick Cage movie) miniseries that stars Robbie Coltrane and Julie Walters.

Listen: Hear from William Prince, Logan Staats and more on the Tkaronto Online Festival. It runs from Friday to Sunday and you can stream it on Facebook Live or YouTube.

Read: You may be feeling pretty bummed that your travel plans have been cancelled but Emma Straub’s hilarious tale of a family trip gone horribly wrong will make you feel a bit better to be stuck at home. In The VacationersFran and Jim are convinced a trip to Spain will fix their marriage, family and lives (it doesn’t), instead they deal with the fallout from each secret their child brings to a beachside mansion.

Eat: Shop local and treat yourself to some doughnuts, fresh kombucha or a meal kit from the Burrow Shop
