Stay Home Club with Jill Kennedy: May 18-24

How’s your week going? This week I planned a social distancing birthday party and got into one of the only sports leagues still going strong through COVID-19. I was excited to learn that Wu-Tang Clan is doing even more to support our city.

I also got into a new docuseries, took in a new album and played a new virtual game with the ELMNT FM pals. Check it out below on this week’s Stay Home Club!

[Watching]

  • Ted Bundy, well Everything

This week I did a deep dive on the infamous serial killer known for his quick wit and charm, Ted Bundy. I watched the Netflix double release of a mini documentary series and a film to go alongside it.  I started with the documentary, Conversations with a Killer: The Ted Bundy Tapes which is a four-part series that follows the timeline of the dreadful events that make up Bundy’s list of crimes. It’s really disturbing and quite sad, but it offers an unmatchable insight into an intriguing case.

I followed up the series with the accompanying feature film, Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile, which is based on the book of the same name written by Ted Bundy’s ex, Liz Koepfler. Zac Efron plays Ted Bundy with a great range while Lily Collins portrays Liz Koepfler impeccably. There were also stand out performances from John Malkovich and Kaya Scalderio.

[Listening]

  • Charli XCX’s new album

The popstar of the future, Charli XCX dropped a new album made entirely in isolation called “how i’m feeling now” last Friday. It’s got dance-y and industrial beats throughout, but the thread is the social isolation lyricism! Check it out if you want to have a dance party in your living room.

  • Catching live music

I’ve been catching some live music this week – virtually of course! As usual, your favourite artists are coming through with some amazing live streams. Check out the latest here.

[Spending Time]

  • Comparing music tastes with my best pals on Musictaste Space

Ever wondered how you compare to your best friends musically? Check out Musictaste Space! It even creates a playlist based on your matching musical interests. The catch is, you need Spotify to generate the data. You can make your playlist here.

  • Houseparty’s Chips & Guac

The ELMNT FM crew got together for a social distancing hang. I was super excited to see the team and to finally try out some of the games on Houseparty! We decided we’d play Chips & Guac. It’s a game like Cards Against Humanity where all players are dealt a hand of cards and they try to match one of their answers with the prompt in question. The prompts are either a word or a picture (usually an emoji) and the voting player will choose the answer they think is best. Players are awarded points when their answers are chosen. The first to four points wins.

We also tried out the drawing game and trivia as well and it was the perfect way to enjoy a long weekend! If you’re looking for ways to hang with your pals virtually, here’s some apps we’d recommend.
