COVID-19 Ottawa:
Ottawa Public Health is reporting 11 new confirmed COVID-19 cases Monday.
However, no new deaths have been reported since Sunday.
1,962 cases have been reported in the Capital, with 244 deaths.
COVID-19 Ontario:
Ontario is reporting 404 new cases of COVID-19 Monday, and 10 more deaths.
That brings the province to a total of 28,263 cases, an increase of 1.5 per cent over the previous day. It includes 2,276 deaths and 22,153 cases that have been resolved.
Long-Term Care Investigation:
Ontario’s ombudsman is launching an investigation into the province’s oversight of long-term care homes during the COVID-19 pandemic.
According to the Ministry of Long-Term Care, 1,648 residents and seven staff members have died amid outbreaks in the facilities. Ombudsman Paul Dube says he will investigate whether the government oversight has been adequate to ensure the safety of residents and staff.
Black Lives Matter Rally Planned:
Organizers in Ottawa are organizing an event, as demonstrations continue around the world to condemn racism, and the police-involved death of George Floyd in Minneapolis.
A rally and March in support of Black Lives Matter is scheduled to start outside the U.S. Embassy on Sussex at 3:00 pm Friday. The plan is to march from there to Parliament Hill and back.
Sloly Announces Racist Meme Charge:
An Ottawa Police officer has been charged under the Police Services Act, in connection with the creation and circulation of what was described as a racist meme within the local force.
Ottawa Police Chief Peter Sloly made the announcement as part of a lengthy statement in response to the demonstrations sweeping through major cities in the U.S. and Canada.
He pledged to stamp out workplace sexual violence and harassment in the force, adding that there were many things that could have been done which would have allowed George Floyd to still be alive today.

Church Break-in Arrest:
Ottawa Police made an arrest in connection with a break and enter at a local church.
Officers were called out to the church on Byron Avenue around 6:00 am Monday, after a passerby noticed a broken window.
Jacob Young Pine, 28, was arrested inside the church, and charged with breaking and entering.
