COVID-19 Ottawa:

Four more people in Ottawa have died from COVID-19-related illness.

Ottawa Public Health is also reporting 52 new cases Tuesday, bringing the total throughout the pandemic up to 3,387, with 362 active, and 81 per cent of patients recovered. There have been 272 deaths related to the virus in the capital.

COVID-19 Ontario:

There are 251 new cases across Ontario.

The total number of cases in the province now stands at 45,068, which includes 2,820 deaths and 40,091 cases classified as resolved.

City Adds Amenities to Brewer Arena Testing Site:

The City is adding some amenities for those facing long lineups for COVID testing at Brewer Arena.

Councillor Shawn Menard has announced that new porta-potties are being added, and a tent is going up on the south side of the building. Menard also suggested they are considering setting up an appointment system for the testing centre.

Ford Warns of More Restrictions for COVID Hotspots:

It sounds like Ottawa, Toronto, and Peel Region could be facing further COVID-related restrictions, in response to the fact that these regions are reporting two third’s of the provinces new cases.

Premier Doug Ford says new guidelines for virus hot spots in the province will be announced soon. Ford shared few other details.

U.S. Drops Tariffs on Canadian Aluminum…Again…

Hours before our Federal Government was set to announce retaliatory counter-measures, the U.S. says it is tentatively lifting its 10 per cent tariff on Canadian aluminium, retroactive to September 1.

The U-S Trade Representative’s office says it expects Canadian exports to “normalize” over the rest of the year. The Trump administration had re-imposed the tariffs last month, claiming the imports were a national security risk to the U-S.

Platform Looks to Help Indigenous Women in Film/TV:

Actor-director Jennifer Podemski has launched an online platform to support Indigenous women in Canadian film and TV.

The Shine Network is free and offers subscribers virtual training, mentorship and a digital exhibition space for content created and owned by Indigenous women. Podemski, who is also a producer, has acted in projects including “Empire of Dirt,” “Dance Me Outside,” “Cardinal” and “Degrassi: The Next Generation.”
