COVID-19 Ottawa:
Three more people have died from complications related to COVID-19 in our city.
301 people have now died after contracting the Novel Coronavirus in the Capital during the pandemic. Ottawa Public Health is also reporting 99 new confirmed cases Friday, sending the city’s total to 5899, with 792 active, and 4806 resolved.
COVID-19 Ontario:
Across Ontario 712 new cases, and nine new deaths related to the novel coronavirus are being reported Friday.
Throughout the pandemic, the province has confirmed 62,908 cases, with 54,004 resolved and 3,031 deaths.
New Testing Centre to Open:
East-enders will have another location to get a COVID test starting next week.
The Montfort Hospital is opening up a clinic inside Ray Friel Recreation Complex in Orleans. It will open at noon Monday. After that, it will operate every weekday from 8:00 am until 3:30 pm, by appointment only.
Police Seek Collision Witnesses:
Ottawa Police want to hear from anyone who witnessed a collision at the westbound 417 exit at Vanier Parkway Thursday night.
Investigators say a Brown Hyundai Elantra struck a pedestrian just before midnight. The patient is now listed in stable condition in hospital. Call Police 613-236-1222 ext. 2481, or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 if you saw this crash, or have dashcam footage of it.
Ministers Meeting to Address Racism in Health Care:
Federal ministers are holding an emergency meeting with Indigenous leaders and health professionals to discuss fighting racism in health care.
That’s as a First Nations elder is alleging staff at a Winnipeg hospital initially dismissed her illness. Then, after she was admitted, questioned her about alcohol use. It turned out Sadie North, 72, was very ill with a bacterial skin infection.
Last month, Joyce Echaquan recorded hospital staff using racist slurs against her as she lay dying in a hospital in Joliette, Quebec.
U of O Support Staff Set Strike Deadline:
The University of Ottawa’s support staff could walk off the job next week, after both sides failed to agree on a new contract.
1,300 members of the Ontario Secondary School Teachers Union have set a strike deadline of 12:01 Monday morning (October 19), if a tentative agreement is not reached over the weekend.
