COVID-19 Ottawa:

There are 52 new, confirmed COVID-19 cases in the Capital Monday.

Ottawa Public Health has recorded 6,088 cases throughout the pandemic, with 759 active, and 4,943 resolved. No new deaths related to the Coronavirus were reported, leaving that number at 303.

Meanwhile,

Public Health says a new outbreak has been declared at the Royal Ottawa Hospital. Two staff members at the Royal have tested positive, and are now self-isolating.

Outbreaks continue at 77 different institutions across the Capital.

COVID-19 Ontario:

There are 704 new cases and four new deaths due to the virus across the Province.

Throughout the pandemic, Ontario has confirmed 65,075 cases, with 3,050 deaths, and 55,978 cases resolved.

The province also reported 74 new cases related to schools, including at least 48 among students.

Border Staying Closed:

The Canada-U.S. border will remain closed to non-essential traffic until at least November 21.

The restrictions that were first put in place in March do not apply to those providing essential services in either country, including trade shipments and cross-border workers. Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has said the restrictions won’t be lifted until there’s clear evidence the pandemic is easing in the United States.

Nova Scotia Getting More RCMP In Response to Harassment of Mi’kmaq Fishers:

Public Safety Minister Bill Blair says Nova Scotia Mounties have deployed multiple resources to maintain the peace and uphold the law as Mi’kmaq fishers face continued harassment.

However, Blair is dismissing calls from a First Nations leader to bring in the military following several recent assaults targeting trappers and properties connected to an Indigenous-run lobster fishery.

Indigenous Services Minister Marc Miller meanwhile says the acts of violence against Mi’kmaq fishers are disgusting, unacceptable and racist, and Indigenous people have been let down by the police who are sworn to protect them.

Shooting Probe:

Ottawa Police want to hear from anyone who witnessed a shooting on Donald Street that sent a man, 20, to hospital with gunshot wounds.

Investigators say it happened around 10:30 last night, and that a vehicle was also damaged by bullets. The victim is said to be stable in hospital. Anyone with more information is asked to call Police at 613-236-1222, ext. 5050, Or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.

Recycling Changes Proposed:

The list of materials accepted by Ontario’s blue box recycling program is going to be expanded.

The proposed new list will include paper, plastic cups, wraps, foils, trays and bags. Single use items such as stir sticks, straws, cutlery and plates will also be permitted in blue bins under the proposal.
