Canadian post-hardcore band, Alexisonfire, have partnered with the Indspire charity to support Indigenous musicians and artists. The band said they have been collecting $1 from every concert ticket sold for the last two years with the company, Plus1. As a result, they were able to create the Alexisonfire Indigenous Music Bursary.
Beginning in 2020, the Alexisonfire Indigenous Music Bursary will be issued each year to Indigenous students in post-secondary school. However, those who require finances for their educational expenses and those who are working toward or interested in studies in music will take priority. The band shared that they have been able to grant support to over 100 First Nations, Inuit and Métis students” in post-secondary.
The bursary is in memory of Karl Bareham, a close friend of the band who worked as their sound tech.
