You’ll be able to celebrate the best in Canadian folk next spring! The 16th annual Canadian Folk Music Award nominees were announced on December 1st, 2020.
Among the nominees is Indigenous folk artist William Prince, who received five nominations for his 2020 album, Reliever, including Contemporary Singer of the Year, Solo Artist of the Year and single of the year for “The Spark.” Alt-pop artist, Riit is up for three awards for her album, Ataataga, including Solo Artist of the Year.

Julian Taylor, who is nominated for two CFMA awards
Folk duo, Burnstick, got two nominations for their album, Kîyânaw. Songstress,Leela Gilday received two for her record, North Star Calling. Folk-rocker, Julian Taylor, the Afternoon Host at our sister station in Toronto, 106.5 ELMNT FM, is up for two awards for his album, The Ridge.
The Indigenous Songwriter of the Year category includes Jason & Nadia Burnstick, Riit, Leela Gilday, Crystal Shawanda and A.W. Cardinal.
Other artists with two or more nominations include Basia Bulat, Pharis & Jason Romero, The East Pointers, Catherine MacLellan, Beòlach, Maya Rae, Marie-Ève Laure, Coco Love Alcorn, Sultans of String, OKAN, The Dead South and Rum Ragged.
