What Happened To The Weeknd’s Face?

One of the most frequently asked questions of the new year has been “What happened to The Weeknd‘s face?” as concern from fans grew rapidly after he posted a picture of his new look on Instagram.


The Weeknd (Abel Makkonen Tesfayeshocked fans even further with the latest results of his “makeover” displayed in the release of his music video for “Save Your Tears“.

How did this happen? Well, in August last year he initially took to the stage at the MTV Video Music Awards with a bloodied face that obviously drew a lot of attention and concern from those who witnessed it. It turns out that this was actually in reference to his short film “After Hours and his music video for “Blinding Lights“.



Those who have taken the time to watch the After Hours video will know that it was meant to draw attention to the issue of drunk driving and showcase what can happen to somebody who gets into a car accident while driving intoxicated.

Two months after the MTV Music Video AwardsThe Weeknd made an appearance at the 2020 American Music Awards ceremony wearing white bandages all over his face.

Now let’s bring our attention back his latest music video release of “Save Your Tears“, which dropped on Tuesday, January 5th, 2021. The Weeknd has switched up the appearance of his wounds, and it appears that he is showcasing the potential aftermath of what things may look like following a severe car accident.

Many fans are wondering if The Weeknd has gotten plastic surgery and if this will be a permanent look. After doing some research, however, people are feeling pretty confident in saying that no, he did not really get major plastic surgery done to his face and that this is a part of his artistic vision and message.

With The Weeknd performing at this year’s Super Bowl in February, it has left much discussion on what we should expect in regards to his appearance. I guess we’ll have to wait and see, right?
