Hip Hop News – March 5, 2021

It’s been another epic week in the world of Hip-Hop! Megan Thee Stallion has yet another gold hit, Chance The Rapper has dropped a self directed music video and Nas has given his view on the current state of Hip-Hop.

Now if you’re a TikTok user, you would certainly know that Megan Thee Stallion‘s latest single “Body” quickly began to trend on the platform. Did this play a part in it’s success? Perhaps it did, but as of Thursday March 4th, 2021 she added yet another gold plaque to her collection when “Body” was officially certified gold by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA)  bringing her current total for gold records to a dozen!

In recent music video releases, we have seen something quite unique happen as Chance The Rapper dropped some brand new visuals that he self-directed for his song “The Heart & The Tongue“. This new video was also filmed at his new music and film studio in Chicago, The House of Kicks. If you weren’t a fan of his music already, this new music video will certainly help sway things.

Closing things off for this week, let’s shift our focus from newer names in Hip-Hop to someone who has been a pillar in the genre. Queensbridge’s very own Nas spoke with The Source and had a few words to say about new Hip-Hop artists.

“I appreciate what’s out there, but there’s no one keeping me up at night,” said Nas“I hear a new rap record and think it’s great, but I don’t listen to it the next week.”

Although the iconic rapper didn’t rave about the new wave of Hip-Hop, he did give a honourable mention to Pop Smoke, saying, “We were happy to see that young king come up,” he said. “He was a breath of fresh air. The drill movement in London, Chicago, and New York is really exciting.”
