ELMNT FM caught up with Jayli Wolf, on her new solo project and the first single, “Child of the Government” which dives deep into the Sixties Scoop and how it affected her family. The Sixties Scoop saw over 20,000 First Nations, Inuit and Métis children taken from their homes by the Canadian Government and the Catholic Church in the ’50s until the ’90s. The kids lost touch with their families, identities and cultures. Jayli wrote this on a path to healing, and it has touched audiences across Turtle Island.
We chat about music as a healing tool and how the song came to be, along with the imagery for the music video, which Jayli directed.
