Premier Doug Ford has told Ontarians that he jumped the gun last week for increasing police enforcement powers and closing playgrounds.
The premier says the measures went too far and his government moved too fast to implement them. “Simply put, we got it wrong. We made a mistake,” Ford said.
The news conference, emotional at times for Ford, was the premier’s first since announcing those new measures, which were removed the following day.
He has been in isolation, working from home, after a staffer tested positive for Covid-19.
Ford also says his team continues to work on upgrades to the paid sick-leave program, but offered no specifics.
