Are you bored on Netflix? Tired of waiting for your favourite show to come back? Then check this out. Thor: Ragnarok director Taika Waititi has  a new Hulu series called Reservation Dogs. 

According to the synopsis, “Reservation Dogs is a half-hour comedy that follows the exploits of four Indigenous teenagers in rural Oklahoma who steal, rob and save in order to get to the exotic, mysterious and faraway land of California.”

Waititi created the series with filmmaker Sterlin Harjo. It stars D’Pharaoh Woon-A-Tai, Paulina Alexis, Lane Factor, and Toronto’s own Devery Jacobs.

In a statement, Waititi said that he is “…proud to be a part of something that amplifies indigenous voices and especially proud to be making it with [his] brother Sterlin Harjo.” 

Harjo is a Seminole-Muscogee filmmaker. Meanwhile, Waititi is of Māori heritage. There is no doubt that both filmmakers will bring a unique perspective to the series. Devery Jacobs, who grew up in the Kanien’kehá:ka Mohawk Territory of Quebec, says that despite filming in Oklahoma, the series had “a sense of home.” You can read more from that interview here. It sounds like the series will represent the realities of many different Indigenous groups regardless of where in the world they are.

Waititi is one of the busiest people in Hollywood. He’s starring in the film Free Guy, coming to theatres on August 13th. Meanwhile, Waititi is also finishing his next film, Thor: Love and Thunder. Thor: Love and Thunder is coming to theatres on May 6th, 2022.

Reservation Dogs begins streaming August 9th. In the United States, Reservation Dogs will be available on Hulu. In Canada, it will be available through Star via Disney Plus. As of now, no Canadian date for the series has been confirmed.
