Celebrate Indigenous Sport Heroes through a digital Education Experience

Canada’s Sports Hall of Fame launched a new digital book that celebrates Indigenous athletes this week. The online experience, Indigenous Sport Heroes, is a collection of stories about Indigenous sports stars. Some of these athletes include Mohawk box lacrosse player, Bill Isaacs, twin sisters and cross country stars, Sharon Anne and Shirley Firth from Gwich’in First Nation and Mohawk award winning water polo player, Waneek Horn-Miller.

Indigenous Sports Heroes includes photos, videos and written resources about the athletes. There are interactive online activities in the works, as well. The digital book is a free resource for all and is available for education workers to bring into their curriculums.

This online collection is a response to one of the calls to action from the Truth and Reconciliation Commission that asks the government to provide information, resources and history about Indigenous athletes.
