Celebrate Capital Pride virtually and in-person this month

Capital Pride returns this month with a packed schedule of virtual and in-person events to celebrate! This year’s theme is “We Still Demand” which pays homage to the very first Canadian grand scale queer rights demonstration that took place 50 years ago in 1971. So get ready to celebrate!

Celebrate safely from home

Sit back, relax and make sure your device is fully charged because this year’s virtual schedule has a lot on offer! From live music to a virtual marketplace featuring queer artisans to The Family Pride Hour, there is something for everyone. Don’t miss drag bingo hosted by Rupaul’s Drag Race season 13 finalist, Kandy Muse to the Capital Pride Drag Pageant, you will be entertained all week long.

As well, there are educational talks and speaker series to take in, like “Educate: All Blood is Equal”, “Trans Health Care Awareness” and “Our Voices”, which will feature Dominique Jackson, from the shows Pose and American Gods.

The virtual schedule starts Sunday, August 22 and runs through until Sunday, August 29.

Partying in person

Unlike last year, Capital Pride has in-person events in store! Enjoy Brunch In Drag on August 22, as hosted by Rupaul’s Drag Race alumni, La La Ri and Canada’s Drag Race finalist, Scarlet Bobo. And don’t miss the flag raising ceremony on August 23rd. A new event that has been added to the program for this year is the Four Fires Vigil: An Indigiqueer and 2-spirit Led Remembrance, which will honour the lives of Indigenous children lost to the residential school system. It will offer a safe space of grieving for the community.

The final celebration to cap off festivities, Spectacular is coming to Lansdowne Park on August 29th, and it really is just that! Hosted by Canada’s Drag Race winner, Priyanka, Spectacular features live performances from a number of artists and drag queens including DJ Sandy Duperval, IMUR, RiVerse, Kiki Coe, and Adrianna Expose. Spectacular starts at 3PM and ends at 10PM on August 29th. Free tickets are available on the Capital Pride website beginning Monday, August 16th.
