Comedian Norm MacDonald Dead at 61

Comedic Legend Norm MacDonald Has Died:

MacDonald died after what a publicist called a long, private battle with cancer. He was 61.

MacDonald made it big in the 90’s when he joined the cast of Saturday Night Live. He was handed the high-profile role of Weekend Update Anchor following the departure of Kevin Nealon. He was well known for his impressions of Burt Reynolds and Bob Dole during his SNL run.

Started His Career In Ottawa:

MacDonald was born in Quebec City, but his family eventually moved to Ottawa. He attended Gloucester High School. Many of his earliest stand up shows were at Yuk Yuks in the Capital. He also had major breakthroughs at the Just For Laughs Comedy Festival in Montreal.

Life After SNL:

MacDonald had a brief film career, appearing in Billy Madison, and his own feature film, Dirty Work. He starred in his own TV series, “Norm,” which lasted for three seasons.
