What’s Open and Closed in Ottawa Over the Holidays

The holiday season has arrived! Here’s a guide to what’s open and closed in the Capital around Christmas and New Years.

 

Retail

All of the city’s malls will be closed on Christmas Day and New Years Day with some operating with modified hours on Christmas Eve, New Years Eve, and Boxing Day. Most grocery stores will also be closed on Christmas Day and New Years Day. All other holiday hours can be found on the mall and grocery store websites.

All LCBO and Beer Store locations will be closed on Christmas Day and New Years Day.

 

City Services

All garbage collection will take place as normal, and you can put out your Christmas tree on your regular collection day.

City of Ottawa recreational facilities will be operating on a modified holiday schedule which can be found on the city’s website. Municipal child care centres will be closed on December 27, December 28 and January 1.

OC Transpo’s holiday service is in effect from December 20 until January 1.

 

Health Services

The COVID vaccine booking line will be closed on December 25, December 26 and January 1. COVID-19 testing centres will remain open during the holiday season with modified hours. Visit your nearest centre’s website for their hours.

 

Attractions

If you’re thinking of heading to a museum over the holidays, here’s a list of when they will be closed:

The Museum of Nature will be closed December 24, 25, 26, 31 and January 1.

The Canada Agriculture and Food Museum, Canada Science and Technology Museum, and Canadian Aviation and Space Museum will be closed December 25.

The Canadian War Museum and Canadian Museum of History will be closed on December 25, 27, and 28.

The National Gallery of Canada will be closed on December 25.

The Diefenbunker will be closed December 24, 25, 26, 27, 28 and January 1.
