Laura Niquay Receives TD Indigenous Songwriter Award

The SOCAN Foundation announced that Attikamek artist Laura Niquay is this year’s winner of the TD Indigenous Songwriter Award. She is being honored for her songs “Moteskano” and “Nicto Kicko”, both of which showcase her folk-grunge sound. Niquay will receive $10,000, as well as opportunities for career development.

Additionally, five special distinction awards were given out to Wyandot singer Anyma, Jayli Wolf of Saulteau First Nations, rocker Kristi Sinclair who is of Haida/Cree heritage, folk singer LJ Tyson, and Shane Ghostkeeper. Each artist will be receiving $1,000 in recognition of their efforts.
