Julian Taylor, Aysanabee, and Indian City Among 2023 Juno Award Nominees

The 2023 Juno Award nominees have been announced, and a number of Indigenous artists are being recognized for their accomplishments over the past year.

OMBIIGIZI, a collaboration between Anishinaabe artists Zoon (Daniel Monkman) and Status/Non-Status (Adam Sturgeon) is nominated for Alternative Album of the Year for their debut album Sewn Back Together. Likewise, Inuk throat singer Tanya Tagaq is also nominated for Alternative Album of the Year for her latest album, Tongues.

Meanwhile, Oji-Cree singer-songwriter Aysanabee, Black-Mohawk artist and host of Julian Taylor’s Jukebox, Julian Taylor, Indigenous supergroup Indian City, Inuk singer Susan Aglukark, and husband-wife musical group Digging Roots are all nominated for Contemporary Indigenous Artist or Group of the Year.

Finally, Cree singer Cikwes, Inuit throat singers Iva & Angu, Cree musician Joel Wood, powwow and Round Dance drum and singing group Northern Cree, and musical group The Bearhead Sisters are all nominated for Traditional Indigenous Artist or Group of the Year.

The 2023 Juno Awards will take place on March 13th, 2023 at Rogers Place in Edmonton, Alberta, and will once again be hosted by Simu Liu.
