Patrick Hunter designed an orange T-shirt for Giant Tiger, with 100% of the proceeds going toward Indspire’s Learning from the Past fund, which will provide bursaries for Indigenous post-secondary students, pursuing education in Indigenous studies and languages. This is the second year in a row Hunter teams up with Giant Tiger and Indspire.
“Any way that we can get more eyes onto a cause like Orange Shirt Day, I think is the goal,” said Hunter. “Giant Tiger is a store that is beloved by so many different communities and small communities across the whole country. I think to partner with them and Indspire was just a no-brainer, because residential schools are not an easy thing to talk about, but it’s something that needs to be talked about.”
National Truth and Reconciliation Day, also known as Orange Shirt Day, is on September 30th. It was officially recognized as a federal holiday, in 2021. Giant Tiger recognizes the importance of this day and intends on doing what they can to help, each year.
“Being part of our communities is so central to who we are. It truly is part of our DNA. Being allies and leaning into conversations and creating positive change is something we are so proud to be a part of. This is incredibly important for our communities,” said Alison Scarlett, head of public relations and communications for Giant Tiger. “Year over year, we can’t wait to make things bigger. Bigger impact, more dollars raised, and more students helped every year.”
The orange T-shirts designed by Patrick Hunter are currently available at Giant Tiger, in stores or online, until September 30th.
