Celebrate The Fall Harvest and Indigenous Culture at the 3rd Annual Tagwàgi Festival

Indigenous Experiences is putting on the third annual Tagwàgi (Autumn) Festival at Madahoki Farm from October 14th – October 15th, 2023.

This year’s festival promises educational workshops, delicious food, and entertainment all weekend long. If you’re in the mood for delicious and authentic cuisine, the festival’s team of Indigenous chefs will be serving meals inspired by the Harvest Moon all weekend long. While the full menu hasn’t been confirmed yet, corn soup and bannock are both on the menu. Plus, on Friday, October 13th, you can join Chef Trudy Metcalfe-Coe for a cooking class from 5pm-8pm where you’ll learn how to make bison medallions served over oven roasted maple squash and a bed of wild rice (our mouths are watering just thinking about it).

If you’re the type of person that likes to get hands-on, the festival is also offering workshops where you can learn how to make Indigenous Corn Husk Dolls and woodland art. Both workshops will be offered all weekend long, and you can pre-purchase your spot in both workshops, as well as Chef Trudy Metcalfe-Coe’s cooking class by clicking here.

While the holiday season might not be quite upon us yet, the festival will be hosting an Indigenous Makers Market all weekend long. Whether you’re looking to get a head start on your holiday shopping, or you’re simply looking to support over 60 local Indigenous artisans, this is the spot for you.

If you’re in the mood for entertainment, the Celebration Stage will be hosting a variety of acts all weekend long. These include the Three Sisters Storytelling and Pow-Wow Dance, as well as Harvest Stories and Songs with David Finkle. Both shows will be running on the Celebration Stage all weekend long.

If you’re looking to experience the great outdoors, the Legacy Trail will be open to walk all weekend long, where you can gain traditional knowledge about the seven grandfather teachings, the four legged that call Madahoki Farm home, and the traditional plants and medicines found along the trail. Furthermore, you’ll have a chance to meet the animals that live on the farm, including the rare and endangered Ojibwe Spirit Horses.

All of this and more will be happening at the Tagwàgi (Autumn) Festival, October 14th and 15th at Madahoki Farm, 4420 West Hunt Club Road. For more information on the festival, click here.
