Major winter storm coming Ottawa’s way

A major winter storm is expected to hit the Ottawa valley and Western Quebec area Tuesday night and will continue through to Wednesday morning. The weather network and environment Canada have issued a Winter Storm warning on Monday afternoon.

The Ottawa area has already received 12.8 centimetres of snow over the weekend and this storm is expected to add 10-20 cm of snow on top of that. Western Quebec should expect Outaouais region and the lower Laurentides to receive upwards of 20 centimeters. This snow has a high chance of transition into freezing rain or ice pellets throughout the night.

Officials are warning motorists and other vehicles to drive safely, adjust to the weather conditions and proceed with major caution. OC transpo will continue service during this storm but has implemented their severe storm schedule for the impacted days.

The city of Ottawa has put a parking ban in place for January 10th from 10am to 7pm so the city can plow the streets uninterrupted. This time may be extended if the storm worsens overnight. Additional parking warehouses can be found on their winter parking website.

A potential snow day could affect the Ottawa Carelton District School Board.

This weather is expected to pass on Wednesday afternoon.
