What’s Open and Closed on 2024 Family Day in Ottawa?

Family Day is this Monday, February 19th, so here’s a look at what’s open and closed this holiday Monday.

Most retail stores and malls will be closed for Family Day. However, if you’re looking to finish up your long weekend with some retail therapy, both CF Rideau Centre in downtown Ottawa and Tanger Outlets in Kanata will be open from 10am to 6pm.

If you need to go out for groceries, most grocery stores will be closed for Family Day. However, there are some exceptions. Farm Boy at CF Rideau Centre will be open from 10am to 6pm. Loblaws on Isabella Street will be open from 7am to 8pm. Likewise, Loblaws on Rideau Street will also be open from 7am to 10pm. Lastly, Whole Foods at Landsdowne by TD Place will be open from 10am to 6pm. All The Beer Store and LCBO locations will be closed on Family Day.

Some recreation centres such as pools, arenas, and fitness centers will remain open for Family Day, however they may be running on holiday schedules. To learn more, click here. Museums that are operated by the City of Ottawa will be closed for Family Day, but other museums may be open. To learn more about whether or not the museum you want to go to is open, please call ahead or check their website. Arts Court Theatre, Nepean Creative Arts Centre, and Nepean Visual Arts Center will all be open on Family Day. Likewise, all Cineplex and Landmark movie theatres will be open for Family Day, as will the Mayfair Theatre and the Bytowne Cinema.

If you need transit to get across the city, most OC Transpo busses and the O-Train line will be operating on a normal schedule, with the only exception being Rural Shopper Route 301. The OC Transpo Customer Service Centre at CF Rideau Centre will be open, however the OC Transpo Lost and Found will be closed, and all Para Transpo trips will be automatically cancelled on Family Day. Customers looking to book a trip with Para Transpo on Family Day should call 613-560-5000, text 57272, or use My Para Transpo to book any trips for Family Day.

A number of City of Ottawa services will not be operating on Family Day. This includes the majority of City Hall services, all municipal child care services, and all Ottawa Public Library locations. Recycling and garbage collection will not be happening on Family Day either. Instead, collection will begin on Tuesday, February 20th, and be delayed by one day for the remainder of the week. Likewise, the Trail Waste Facility will be open on Family Day from 9am to 5pm. If you have a serious emergency, you can still contact the City of Ottawa’s 3-1-1 Contact Centre.

The Site program office, along with the supervised consumption services will be closed on Family Day. However, the Site mobile van will be open from 5am to 11:30pm. The Sexual Health Clinic and satellite clinics will also be closed for Family Day, along with dental clinics and Parenting-In-Ottawa drop ins. Lastly, Employment and Social Services offices will be closed on Monday.
